Lowlifes follows the exploits of a couple cyberpunk scumbags who get way over their heads way faster than they can handle.

This game has two players, Scratch and myself. We play it as a one-shot initially but later decide we might like to revisit it as a series. I was already familiar with the system, even though it’s just a pamphlet game (and we already co-GM another game together), so we decided I would serve as the GM and play a Gamemaster Player Character to supplement Scratch’s Character. We’re using the very cute and fun Wired Neon Cities by Trollish Delver Games. For us, it delivered.

Dramatis Personae

We talked over some rules interpretations such as starting augments and how extra attacks work first. Settling that quickly, we each put together a character. From the chat record, it looks like this took me about 10 minutes total. I’m picky, slow to decisions, and we also had the rules conversation in that time. So, really simple, wicked fast character creation. I also felt like I got what I wanted out of the character.

Absent a worldbuilding session, we decided to work together to create an inciting incident. Give us some direction. Relevant part of the conversation was as follows:

Quantum
Are we gangers or something else?

Scratch
Just petty thugs, robbing people in a specific alley that's not in gang territory
if a gang takes over, we move, living in the shifting middle ground of the gang wars
and now, as we stand, waiting for our next mark to come through, a runner appears, unaware of our presence, and carrying something far more dangerous than anything we've tried to lift before…

Quantum
Alright, I've got some random generators to help out.

(The random generator I ended up using was the spectacular Augmented Reality, The Holistic City Kit For Cyberpunk Games by Geist Hack Games. No, really, I can’t sing this product’s praises enough if you need modern/cyber oracles. It’s 2 bucks on Drive Thru RPG.)

Scratch
sweet
so we could have the initial mugging of the guy, then perhaps the guys chasing the runner, and maybe some corp or other important people whose stuff we (may) now have.
